A Christmas Baby Grows Up
By Sybil Vaughn – December 24, 2005

Even in Easley, South Carolina, it was a cold December Christmas Eve day.
The year was 1968; Dr. Bradley determined that the time for the birth may
Be very near; he did not want me to go into labor so he scheduled an operation
The day before Christmas; maybe he just wanted to start his winter vacation!

I was very young and already had one small child but Gary needed a sibling.
What a marvelous present from Santa, no it was a gift for the Lord to bring.
We decided on Noel for a middle name; it means “born at Christmas time,”
Timothy was his first name; a baby’s birth near Christmas was so sublime.

Because the baby was a bit early and I a diabetic, at the hospital we stayed
For a few days, then on an icy New Year’s Day while Auld Lang Syne played
We came home to greet the world with the new bundle, this newborn boy.
Even though I was sore from the surgery, I was filled with a mother’s joy.

The years have a way of passing quickly so the baby became a boy growing.
He became especially close to Grandma Marie; her love for the boys flowing
To their every day care while we worked.   Tim was always eager to please;
And with his outgoing personality and fun-loving facade, he loved to tease.

The years kept marching onward and now I say that this man called Tim
Took our little boy along with his memories and still full of vigor and vim.
I suppose I have to face the fact; this Christmas baby turned into an adult,
So now to observe his birth and Christmas with his children is one result.
