In recent years, I have come to know many people across the world
through that wonderful tool, the world wide web.  Some of these people
have become great friends and have had various influences on my life.

One of these influences is that through reading the poetry of two of these
friends, I was inspired to get into the world of poetry writing.  I had a brief
taste when I was very young but then went on to other interests.  In the last
few months, I wrote a few poems, some of which appear in this section.

Sybil Vaughn - September 2005
Here are some quotes from Jean Cocteau, French poet (07/05/89-10/11/63) that I particularly like:

Such is the role of poetry.
It unveils, in the strict sense of the word. It lays bare, under a  light which shakes off torpor,
the surprising things which surround us and which our senses record mechanically.

The poet doesn't invent. He listens.

Poets don't draw. They unravel their handwriting and then tie it up again, but differently.
One of My Favorite Poems

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though.
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gave his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
