| Beware of Onions |
| Onions cause a blood disorder in dogs called Heinz body anemia. This is a change in red blood cells, causing them to become misshapen, weak, and eventually disintegrate. It can be caused by any form of onion - cooked, raw, dehydrated. The effect is cumulative. Be careful of Gerber babyfood meat - they've recently added onion powder to their meat products for flavor. I know a lot of us use babyfood when our Silkys are sick or stop eating. Don't know about other brands, or even if it's something that would be listed on the labels. Don't know if vets are aware of this change in Gerber's. |
