| WHY THE FURKIDS GO TRICK-or-TREATING by Sybil Vaughn - October 2005 |
For far too long we had to stay near the door at home to guard and bark When those scary human goblins descended in bunches out of the dark. First they rang the doorbell and then they said one thing, "trick or treat." They actually wanted our parents to give them all kinds of stuff to eat! Our humans always brought home from the store many goodies and candy, We thought it was ours; we looked and we thought “isn’t this just dandy?” That led us to look forward to a grand old time, but alas it was not to be! Mommy hid the stash in one of the spare rooms so we couldn’t eat or see. Each year when the appointed day and the specified witching hour arrived, They drove us crazy coming to our door trying to get inside. They connived To get our food and our treats while we in return instilled them with fright. “You can’t come in and you can’t have our food, to protect this we fight!” Then one day after we had enough, we passed the word around to all our pals. “Let’s start a campaign in alliance with the pet store marketing guys and gals. Tell them to sell Halloween costumes for all kinds and sizes of furkid canines; We want fun too, our parents would oblige, and maybe even consider felines.” That’s how we started our own celebrations; now we adorn our daunting outfits And go to all the neighbors and say “Grrrr and woof;” we score a few good hits. Now keep us in mind this season and all other years as Halloween grows near. When we visit you that day, give us some tasty morsels, don’t tremble in fear. |
