Hobbies and Interests

I spent a number of years working full time and going to school at
night and on weekends so I haven't had much time to develop hobbies.

I always told people that I never had any hobbies and I didn't
have a clue what they would be if I did have any time.

Just within the last few years as I finished graduate school and went about my life,
I began to see where my interests lie;  many of them relate to technology which was not
available just a few years ago.

It really amazes me that this category has developed from one page to a whole
section of several pages.

In 1999 when I purchased a Gateway computer system,
I became more and more interested in playing around with many things on the computer.

What a dramatic change it has made in my life!   The addition of a
Dell laptop and other periphials in early 2006 greatly expanded my options.

I love my computer equipment; it greatly enhances my quality of life!

This website is a product of my interest;
I enjoy working on the webpages and exploring things I can do to make them better.
My job prevents me from spending much time on hobbies so the changes,
developments, and additions to my website happen very slowly.
It wil likely always be a work in progress.

I've joined special interest and support group email lists where I have gained
a wealth of information and made some great friends.

I've learned so much about the experiences of other diabetics and made
some dear friends with some of them who are very supportive.  From
them I've learned so much about products and treatments.

I've gotten involved with other Silky Terrier people and learned so
much about the breed and enjoyed communicating about our beloved pets.
A few years ago it was my privilege to travel to Houston where I met
in person some of the people I've been communicating with for several years.
I also made a trip to Hawaii to spend some time with a dear friend
that I met over the net.

The internet broadens your horizons and opens a whole new
world.
I like to grow flowers or maybe I just like to
make make my yard look nice.

My mom was an expert gardner and spent many hours working
in the yard as I grew up. I was not interested at the time, so I
didn't gain any of her vast horticultural knowledge.

I do love flowers so just a few years ago, I began to get more
serious about trying different things.   Since I don't know a lot
about growing them, I've done a lot of trial and error and tend
to stick with the easier things that work well for me.

You can see some of my efforts on the pages which
I've now separated into pictures of my Illinois home
and pictures of my North Carolina home.

In February of 2003 I received my first digital camera for my birthday.
I was taking graduate school classes at the time and did not relish the idea
of taking on something else new that I had to learn.  My job and my
school studies were overwhelming enough at times.

I soon found that this camera was easy and was delighted as I began
to use it more and more.  Many of the pictures on this website were
taken with my original digital.
For Christmas of 2004, I received an upgraded camera.  There are a
number of pictures on this website taken with that one but I never
used it much because it seemed too complicated.  In 2008 I bought a
Sony cybershot which works perfectly for me.

People who know me well are accustomed to seeing me with a camera.
Although I don't know a great deal about the art of photography,
I found that I immensely enjoy taking photos, then working on
them with a photo editor to enhance as needed.

Now I who am not the least bit craft-oriented, can even make own
Christmas cards, invitiations, pictures to use in my office,
and even a few web pages.

In my hobby section, you can see pictures of my flowers,
autumn scenes, and winter scenes, as well as other pictures
throughout the website.

Be sure to check out the pictures from my Hawaii trip which
are in another section of my personal pages.
For a number of years I have collected items that give me joy and pleasure such as figurines, dolls, and
stuffed animals.  After the next several pages of flower pictures and fall and winter scenes, you can see
some of my collectibles.
