For several years, it has been my privilege to know a lovely lady and friend, Mildred Carlstrom. She has been a great inspiration, role model, and mentor. Millie is recently widowed from Bill Carlstrom who spent many years serving his country in the U.S. Navy. When Bill retired, they returned to Millie’s home where she grew up, the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. They built a home in Pearl City, near Pearl Harbor and Honolulu. Millie had invited me to come over for a visit many times, then it got to the point where she was very “strongly encouraging” me to come to Hawaii. I had never been there and never had any desire to go until I met Millie. Finally in October 2006, I started looking at fares and schedules and made the decision to book a flight for the end of January. A perfect time it seemed because the fares were much cheaper, the weather in Illinois was horrible, and the weather in Hawaii was almost perfect. I was accompanied on the flight by a lady named Cheryl that lives about an hour or so from me. I had never met Cheryl before. What Millie, Cheryl, and I have in common are our Silky Terriers. Millie previously bred, trained, and showed Silkies. Now she has two Silky companions, I have two also, and Cheryl has one. The flight to Hawaii was much longer than I had flown before and tiresome, but the experience in Hawaii was just awesome. I shed my coat, gloves, and boots for shorts, T-shirts, and sandals. Millie was a very gracious hostess, a wonderful cook, and a perfect tour guide. Since she has access to many of the military bases, we were able to see and enjoy numerous things that are not available to the general public. I also found out that Millie is actually the Energizer Bunny in person! She never stops! I am so grateful to my wonderful friend for this splendid vacation. It is one I will never forget and hope to repeat again. On the following pages are a few of the many pictures we took. Hope you enjoy the visit through my eyes.

Arrival at Honolulu Airport Cheryl and Me Millie greeted us with leis.

I thought this is a either a coconut or a pineapple tree, however my friend tells me that pineapples do not grow on trees and it isn't a coconut tree. It is a lauhala tree with some sort of inedible flower/fruit.

Shopping Center at Pearl Harbor; I mainly wanted to capture the sign.
