Memorial Service Program:
Navy Hymn

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bids the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep,
O hear us when we cry to thee,
For those in peril on the sea.
Heaven

I've found a new place where I can be free;
I've found a whole new beginning, just made for me;
I know only peace and I never feel pain;
Days are full of sunshine and never the rain.

I'm no longer old; I've recovered my youth;
And all of my dreams have become my truth;
I can smile, I can laugh, I can walk, I can run;
I can hear every whisper, I can see past the sun.

My body is whole and my mind is clear;
I know all the answers and I'm freed from fear;
I know why you mourn me, I see how you weep;
Your heart's full of aching from a love that was deep.

And I'm grateful for loved ones that hold me so dear;
But remember, I've found a better place here.
I will be there beside you, always nearby;
So don't mourn me for long, nor forever cry.

And whenever your sorrow bears down on your heart;
Think not of my ending, but of my new start;
For on earth there's no joy that I'd ever see;
To compare to the joy of God smiling at me.
Not Only On Memorial Day but
"Always remembering and loving
those before and those now."

A Postscript from Sybil Vaughn

I "met" Mildred Carlstrom online a few years ago on a small Silky Terrier online
group that the breeder of my Silky Terriers invited me to join.  I soon felt a kindred
spirit with this kind and wise woman who is a great mentor in many ways and truly
an inspiration and a role model.   A few hundred emails and a few phone calls later,
it was my privilege to meet Millie in person.  She continues to be a valued friend.

Although I never met her husband, I knew him through the way Millie spoke of his
love for God and his fellow man, his many years of military service to his country,
and his devotion to his wife of 63 years.   I wept as I watched the video of his
memorial service that Millie was kind enough to share with me.
If I can figure out how to put it online, I will do that so you too can see
this military memorial service and scattering of ashes in beautiful Hawaii.

An added note:
Millie and Bill were present at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed.
It is so interesting to hear her tell about what happened that day
from personal experience.

Background Music:

"God Bless America"

As Bill was being wheeled into
the ER just a couple of days
before he passed away, he told
Millie "I love, you, God bless
you, and God bless America."
